Eyewear Boutique
Frames are not one-size-fits-all. Lenses may sometimes be comfortable for all activities but often times, specialized lenses may make certain hobbies or activities more comfortable. We offer a wide range of frames to suit your individual style and budget, and pride ourselves in offering the latest, cutting edge lens technology.
Progressive lenses
For individuals with a distance prescription and near/intermediate prescription, a progressive lens incorporates all prescriptions into a single lens, eliminating the need to constantly switch glasses. These lenses do not have a visible line.
Near Variable Focus (NVF) lenses
Computer screens typically sit at arm’s length, approximately 24 inches away. This is farther than the usual reading distance so standard reading glasses may not be comfortable at the computer. Additionally, for progressive lens wearers, the prescription for this intermediate distance typically sits below eye level while the computer screen sits at eye level, making it difficult to view the screen through the appropriate power. NVF lenses include a computer/intermediate prescription at eye level so computer screens may be viewed comfortably. NVF lenses also incorporate a stronger reading prescription so it becomes comfortable to view both the computer screen which is farther out, and read documents which may be closer. There are a number of different computer lenses. Our optometrist and optician will determine which may be most appropriate for your individual needs.
High index lenses
These are the thinnest and lightest lenses available and especially suitable for higher powered prescriptions
UV filter
UV protection is important for eye health at all ages. We recommend UV protection for everyone at all times. UV protection may be added to your clear glasses as well as in your sunglasses. Some lenses may have UV protection already built in; other lenses have the option to add a UV filtering coating. Ask our optician about UV protection when ordering glasses.
Blue wavelength filter
Blue light is inherent in the sun but also emitted from screens (computer monitors, tablets, phones). Blue light accelerates age-related changes in the eye such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Blue light also tends to feel harsher, contributing to eye fatigue. This coating may be added to any lens to filter out blue light and may be especially suitable for someone who spends long hours in front of screens.
Anti-reflective (AR) coating
This coating minimizes glare for increased visual comfort. Additionally, this coating offers a cosmetic benefit as light reflections are eliminated off the lens enabling others to see your eyes through the lens.
Polarized lenses
Sunwear with polarized lenses filter out glare in addition to providing a dark tint. This is especially beneficial in environments with lots of reflections/glare (e.g. water environments) and can be worn for everyday use.
Photochromic lenses
These lenses adapt automatically to changing light so they are clear when indoors and dark when outdoors. Ask our optician about the latest generation which changes colors quicker than ever!
